Current Analogue

Aurélien Tchouameni

Real Madrid

BRSPivote90

Protecting and progressing from six

Why the comparison works

Lavia and Tchouaméni connect defensive protection with possession from the base of midfield. The resemblance is strongest in receiving centrally, resisting pressure and moving play forward.

Shared qualities

Central screening
Receiving under pressure

Where it breaks down

Tchouaméni offers greater physical reach and aerial presence; Lavia’s smaller-space receiving is not the same defensive profile.

Historical Analogue

John Obi Mikel

Chelsea 2007-2012

Composure in front of the defence

Why the comparison works

Lavia recalls the holding-midfield version of John Obi Mikel at Chelsea in 2007–12 through composure on the ball and work in front of the defensive line.

Shared qualities

Holding-midfield positioning
Composed possession

Where it breaks down

Mikel’s larger frame and relatively restrained circulation qualify the match. Lavia’s carrying should not be presented as an identical feature of Mikel’s phase.

A style reference for this phase, not a prediction of Romeo Lavia’s ceiling.
