Lilian Thuram — Parma 1996-2001
Parma · WD
Timber's athletic defending at right-back after a centre-back start recalls Thuram at Parma in 1996–2001, when he was used at both right-back and centre-half. Thuram's advanced right-back role in the 3-0 UEFA Cup final win over Marseille in May 1999 is an in-phase example. The comparison concerns legitimate dual defensive roles, not Parma's collective record.
Thuram's Parma phase came in a back line alongside Cannavaro, with Buffon in goal, while Timber's evidence comes mainly from his role as Arsenal's starting right-back.
A style reference for this phase, not a prediction of Jurrien Timber’s ceiling.
