Kerkez and Robinson turn left-back into an extra forward-running position. Their overlap gives the player ahead another route outside, and their pace lets them turn a short combination into a run towards the byline. It is the movement beyond the ball that ties the comparison together.

Evra’s Manchester United 2007–11 phase offers a reference for Kerkez’s attacking runs: combine on the left, continue beyond the receiver and supply the next ball into the area. Evra’s overlap and cross against Chelsea in January 2009 illustrate that same route into attack.
