Patrick Paul Vieira

Patrick Vieira — Arsenal 2000-2004

Arsenal

Why is Declan Rice similar to Patrick Paul Vieira (Patrick Vieira — Arsenal 2000-2004)?

Why the comparison works

Win the ball, then surge through midfield

Rice's habit of winning possession and powering forward recalls Vieira at Arsenal in 2000–04, a tackler who started attacks with surging runs from midfield. Vieira's opening goal at Tottenham in April 2004, which helped secure the unbeaten title, is an in-phase example of him arriving forward. The comparison concerns the two-way mechanism, not the Invincibles' record.

Shared qualities

Winning possession and starting attacks
Driving runs from central midfield
Arriving late in the box

Where it breaks down

Vieira's 1.92m frame and aerial presence shaped a more physically dominant anchoring role, while Rice's current value also leans heavily on set-piece delivery.

A style reference for this phase, not a prediction of Declan Rice’s ceiling.
